Kingston Springs Firefighters Honor the Fallen

"110 for 343"

Six members of the Kingston Springs Fire Department traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana this past week to honor those who lost their lives on September 11th. The annual Fire Department Instructors Conference memorial stair climb was held on Friday, April 11. Captain Jeremy Vaughan, Sergeant Nathan Vetitoe, Sergeant Jordan Fritz and Firefighters Trey Frasch, Roger Parker and Maverick Baker all participated in the climb, which was held in Lucas Oil Stadium.

The members were accompanied by Chief E. Ivey and Assistant Chief H. Fischer. The climb consisted of three "laps" around the south concourse of the stadium, through the upper deck. All members successfully completed the climb wearing firefighting gear, ringing the bell at the 78 story mark (last known position of those in the Towers prior to collapse) and continuing on. "Absolutely the most challenging AND rewarding thing I've ever accomplished! I'm very proud of these guys!" Captain Vaughan stated. Not all participants completed the climb, some received medical treatment and one was transported for further assessment. "I'm shocked they completed it, but they did so together, side by side, finishing as a team", Chief Ivey.

Each member represented a fallen Firefighter from September 11, wearing a badge with their picture and name. The members have decided to donate their challenge coins to display in a shadow-box at Kingston Springs Station 1.
